How to Get Strong Bones

Two recent studies about the effects of calcium intake on the bone density showed that it unlikely improves bone density.

" ... The studies indicate that the amount of calcium a person over 50 has in their diet whether -- either from food or supplements -- is unrelated to the risk of bone fracture...."
This is from

Two facts came to my mind:
1.Elephants  eat only plants and have pretty strong bones.

2.and - THIS IS MORE RELEVANT -  the surgeon said during my mothers hip-surgery in Quebec "my God her bones are like German oak" ... she was at that time 84 years old
Because my mother had a sensitive gall bladder she never drank milk, cream, and scratched the butter on the bread ... BUT she worked until she was 80 in her bookbindery. There she was very active and did a lot of heavy  lifting.

This proves that physical activity and light weight bearing exercises are most important for bone density. This probably explains why men have generally stronger bones.
